The hand-written inscription by Elizabeth Keith on this print would appear to refer to the artist Bertha E. Jaques (1863–1941) who was inspired to teach herself etching after visiting the Chicago World Fair in 1893. She went on to establish the Chicago Society of Etchers in 1910 and is known to have travelled to Japan. She and Elizabeth Keith were friends and Bertha Jaques helped Keith arrange exhibitions in the US in 1937.
